Mr White has extensive transactional and managerial experience in the development finance sphere with a diverse career in this environment spanning about 30 years. He spent 18 years at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), during which he fulfilled various roles, including at a senior managerial level. Mr White worked on a contract basis for the African Development Bank in Tunisia until 2011.
His career developed over time to focus on governance and has served on various boards. He has held directorships with companies that include Pan-African private equity fund Commonwealth Africa Investment Fund, Mozambican iconic beer brewing operation Laurentina Cervejas and the Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA). Mr White has also sat on the boards of Ithala Development Finance Corporation and a regional retail bank in South Africa, Ithala.
He has extensive experience in all facets of organisational leadership and governance, having served on directors’ affairs, audit, remuneration and specialist risk committees of the various entities. Since leaving formal employment, Mr White has consulted on corporate strategy and development finance. The organisations he has done work for include Sasol, DBSA, the African Development Bank and a Canadian-based consulting firm that specialises in development finance.
Mr White’s recent assignments comprise a feasibility study to establish a national development finance institution in Malawi and a project with regional Trade and Development Bank in Nairobi, Kenya. The Minister of Water and Sanitation reappointed him to the Board of TCTA in May 2019.
