Satish Roopa holds B.Iuris, LLB and MPhil degrees. He practised as a human rights and labour lawyer from 1981 to 1994 after which he served as the MEC for Safety and Security in the North West Province from 1994 to 1999. Mr Roopa then became the Executive Mayor of Potchefstroom – a role in which he served for three years, 2001 to 2003.

He runs his consulting firm, Satish Roopa Consultants. He has extensive experience in corporate governance and has served on the boards of several companies. He is a non-executive director of the Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority and the iSimangaliso Wetlands Authority. Earlier board positions include at the Gautrain Management Agency and ABSA North West.

He has an extensive experience repertoire including in transformation designs for public and private institutions, the King Codes on corporate governance, the drafting performance management systems and contracts, and developing workplace skills plans. Mr Roopa has facilitated Section 189 retrenchment talks and wage negotiations, and guided companies on corporate social investment.

Other work he has undertaken includes facilitating and managing workplace forums, coaching and mentoring of employees, change management, strategy formulation, and governance, risk and compliance. Mr Roopa’s consulting firm specialises in the facilitation of relationships between organised labour and management. It also conducts training in areas that include Negotiations, Conflict Resolution, Skills Management, Contract Management, Corporate Governance, Leadership Development, Ethics and Labour Legislation.
