TCTA recently celebrated the achievements of learners as part of the National Adjudication for the Water and Sanitation Education Programme. The ceremony recognised 54 learners from all nine provinces with bursaries, laptops and tablets, highlighting both academic excellence and commitment to community development.

Stakeholder Relations Coordinator at TCTA and Programme Director Dudu Moremi welcomed the learners and acknowledged the educators whose dedication shapes the country’s future through education. “It is such an honour being in the presence of such a lively crowd. Today is all about celebrating your achievements, and remember, all of you are winners,” she said. She encouraged learners to continue striving for excellence and to inspire those around them.

The awards ceremony took place on 10 October 2025 and was hosted by Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation David Mahlobo. In his keynote address, he emphasised the importance of responsible water use and innovation. “Water is life, sanitation is dignity,” he said. Deputy Minister Mahlobo made the point that water demand has grown in tandem with the population, leading to increasing scarcity. He, however, struck an upbeat note, recognising that South Africa teemed with young talent. “I see brilliant minds here ready to find solutions.”

Deputy Minister Mahlobo underlined the role of learners’ creativity and problem-solving skills in shaping a sustainable future. He also addressed career choices, stressing the need for engineers while recognising the value of all disciplines. “As much as we need engineers, the world cannot survive with only engineers,” the Deputy Minister Mahlobo added. He encouraged institutions to support learners through challenges and urged parents and teachers to allow young people to pursue their own dreams.

Pule Mothiba, TCTA’s Chief Strategy Officer, reinforced the message of self-belief and perseverance. “Believe in yourself, the same way we believe in you. You have the potential to do great things, and for the fact that you are here today is evidence of how serious you are about your future,” he said.

The ceremony was both a celebration of achievement and a reaffirmation of TCTA’s commitment to education and nurturing future leaders across South Africa. It showcased the potential of the next generation and the organisation’s continued support
for learners shaping a brighter future.
