More than 500 enthusiastic learners from four secondary schools in Ramokokastad, North West, were given a rare opportunity to explore a wide range of career options during a dynamic career expo held on 6 May at Kwena Tlase Secondary School. The event targeted Grade 11 and 12 learners from Kwena Tlase, Gaotime, Mphela and Ramoroko secondary schools, equipping them with critical information to help shape their future paths.
The initiative was a collaborative effort between the Moses Kotane Local Education Office and the Baphalane Traditional Council. It brought together a diverse mix of organisations from the public and private sectors, including TCTA, the National Youth Development Agency, the South African Police Service and several academic institutions. Their participation added significant value to the day with representatives sharing insights, opportunities and practical advice to guide learners toward meaningful careers.
Local traditional leader Kgosi Jem Ramokoka was present to lend his support and shared heartfelt words of encouragement with the learners. “This event presents a perfect opportunity for me to not only address the learners as the leader in the community, but also as a parent,” he said. He reminded learners that they are the future the country looks to with hope and expectation. “We see many leaders among you, and we hope you walk out today feeling motivated,” he added.
Representing TCTA were Florence Ndhundhuma, Gabriel Maile and Dudu Moremi, who presented the organisation’s
bursary and internship initiative Project Naledi, which closed on 14 May 2025. They urged the learners to dream big and spelt out, step by step, how to access bursaries and internships in the water sector. The team emphasised the importance of staying focused on schoolwork and persevering through challenges to achieve one’s goals. The local education office says the career expo aims to give pupils a clear picture of the many jobs in the world of work. With that knowledge, learners can choose paths that suit both their passions and real prospects
